The Diploma Programme Curriculum

Over a two-year period, IB Diploma students study six (6) academic subjects, one from each group, although a second group 4 subject may supplant group 6. Three (3) subjects are studied at the higher level (HL) and three (3) at the standard level (SL).

North Battleford Comprehensive High School is  currently offering the following International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme subjects:

Group 1 – English A: Literature (HL)

Group 2 – Language Acquisition: French B (SL)

Group 3 – Individuals and Societies:  History (SL) (HL)

Group 4 – Sciences:  Biology (SL); Chemistry (SL) (HL)

Group 5 – Mathematics:  Math (SL)

Group 6 – The Arts:  Music (SL)

IB Diploma students must also fulfill the requirements of the Theory of Knowledge (ToK), Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) and the Extended Essay (EE).

ToK encourages students to consider what they know, how they know it and how areas of knowledge are connected and interdependent. Please click on the following URL to learn more about the requirements concerning Theory of Knowledge.

The EE allows a diploma candidate to do independent research in a subject and topic of interest. The extended essay is an independent, self-directed piece of research, finishing with a 4,000-word paper. The extended essay is mandatory for all students looking to complete the diploma.

The CAS requirement encourages students to develop their potential in creative and active pursuits as well as to develop a spirit of community service. Creativity, activity, service is one of the three essential elements that every student must complete as part of the Diploma Programme (DP). Studied throughout the Diploma Programme, CAS involves students in a range of activities alongside their academic studies.
